SimpoLab is a project I founded together with some friends from the University of Milan, consisting, de facto, in an excuse to express our intellect and creativity in implementing various projects, sometimes useless but nevertheless interesting.
The name SimpoLab comes from Symposium, as we initially called our cozy discussions revolving around our ideas, and Lab, as our way to experiment them.
Today, SimpoLab consists in a VPS, running Arch Linux and administered by me, in which each member can run their projects, along with some common services. Among the common services we have:
- Git server with Gitea (previously with GitKiss)
- Mailserver with Postfix and Dovecot (currently offline)
- Web server with Nginx
- DNS server with BIND
- Database with PostgreSQL
- multiple Telegram bots
- (Modded) Minecraft server(s)
- (Modded) Terraria server(s)
and more. I also wrote some guides after setting up services on the VPS:
You can also find some of our projects on GitHub.
Overall, SimpoLab has been a great way of learning both technology and theory, and to make my (often dumb) ideas a reality.
